Jamaican Scotch Bonnet Hot Sauce recipe

This is the best Jamaican Scotch Bonnet Hot Sauce recipe you will ever try! Yes that is a big statement but I think its true. What makes this the best recipe is that it has a few citrus in it from oranges to limes and even pineapples. 

SCOTCH BONNET HOT PEPPER SAUCE RECIPE

Everything is mixed all together in a blender making this one of the easiest recipes to make.

Just be sure to put on gloves of some kind when handling the scotch bonnet peppers as they are very hot and burn the eyes if in contact.

Protect the kids and pets by tossing out what is not used 🙂

SCOTCH BONNET HOT PEPPER SAUCE INGREDIENTS

10 GREEN Scotch bonnet peppers
5 Red & Yellow Scotch bonnet peppers
1/2 Orange
2 slices of pineapple, diced
1 lime, juice
1/2 cup of Vinegar
2 tbsp olive oil
1/2 onion
3 cloves of garlic
1 tbsp of Cilantro
pinch salt

I always have homemade Jamaican Scotch Bonnet Hot Sauce in my fridge. It is easy to make and if you like spice then this recipe is for you! I like to add it on chicken and shrimp! And is almost every Jamaican recipes I make at home! 

The Yellow and Red are the hottest. Yellow has the best flavor. If you find a purple one beware that is the hottest of them all.

How Hot is A Scotch Bonnet Pepper

According to Forbes. A Scotch Bonnet Pepper has a heat rating of 100,000-350,000, the scotch bonnet can be up to 40 times hotter than a typical jalapeño pepper.

Authentic Jamaican Jerk Chicken recipe

This Authentic Jamaican Jerk Chicken recipe can be made in the oven or in your air fryer too if you prefer. I baked them today because I made an extra large batch! They can be made with store bought Jerk sauce but I highly recommend you try my authentic homemade sauce instead.

WHAT IS JERK CHICKEN

Jerk Chicken is a Marinade that is often marinated with Chicken overnight prior to grilling or baking or even Air Frying.

JERK CHICKEN MARINADE 

Consists of Scotch bonnet peppers, cilantro, olive oil, vinegar, soya sauce, onion, garlic, ginger, lime juice, thyme, cinnamon, allspice and salt. 

Some people even add orange juice, pineapple or mango to the marinade. Mine has some orange juice to balance the flavors.

Serve with fresh lime and orange slices for extra freshness!

How to Make Jerk Chicken Wings in the Oven

Start by Marinating the Chicken overnight in the fridge.

  • Rince the chicken the coat with fresh lemon juice and allow to sit in the fringe for 30 mins.
  • Then simply placing the JERK sauce in a ZIPLOCK bag along with the Chicken
  • Shake to coat and that is it.
  • The next day, take out of the fridge and place in your 400 f pre heated oven and bake for 45 mins.
  • Be sure to flip them half way through cooking!
  • Enjoy with Coconut rice or Jamaican rice and beans

Jamaican rice and peas with canned beans

This Jamaican rice and peas with canned beans is easy to make and comes all together in one pot in 30 minutes time!

Serve this rice alongside other Jamaican favorites such as Cabbage SlawAir Fryer Jerk Chicken ,Jamaican Coconut Shrimp Curry, Jamaican Goat.

You can always use dried Red Kidney beans in replace of the canned, just be sure to soak them overnight on the countertop covered in water. 

Then when it comes to cooking them, you are gonna want them to cook for at least an hour. Just simply follow the method below.

But add more stock or water as needed when cooking as they are a much harder bean then the canned version.

How to make Jamaican rice and peas with canned beans

This recipe is a tried and true recipe: I have made it several times in the past year. 

You will want to have on hand:

  1. Open 1 large can of Kidney beans, keep the liquid for more flavor.
  2. 1 50 gram package of Grace coconut powder
  3. Jerk seasoning
  4. Scotch Bonnet pepper, I prefer to use the sauce as it saves my hands and eyes from burning. 
  5. Long grain rice
  6. Onions, garlic and spices.

HOW TO MAKE JAMAICAN CABBAGE

There is 3 main steps

  1. Step 1, slice your carrots, yellow pepper, green onions, scotch bonnet pepper, white onions and cabbage.
  2. Mince the garlic and in a large frying pan start by cooking down the onions till soft, add in the sliced carrots and sauté for a couple mins before adding in the minced garlic and sauté for 1 min.
  3. Add in the cabbage last, turn the heat down to low and steam the cabbage with the lid on for 5 mins. Then give the pot a good stir and steam for 2 more mins. Season with salt and pepper to serve.

Rasta Jerk Shrimp

This Rasta Jerk Shrimp is easy to make as it is ready in less than 15 minutes!

RASTA JERK SHRIMP INGREDIENTS

  • Jerked Shrimp
  • 3 different bell peppers
  • Cream or Milk
  • Powdered Coconut Milk
  • Garlic
  • Butter 
  • Salt to taste

You can always use just canned coconut milk in replace of the milk & powdered coconut milk if preferred. 

Also, you can add any type of cooked pasta to this dish as well. If you choose to do that, make sure to add more coconut milk to this recipe which will help to coat the pasta of your choosing.

What I like about this recipe is that it is super healthy, quick and easy to make.

Not to mention healthy as it has 3 types of bell peppers in it along with shrimp which is packed full of protein.

This dish can be enjoyed as a meal or appetizer!

HOW TO MAKE JERK SHRIMP RASTA

  • To make this dish you will want to start by marinated your shrimp in Jamaican Jerk sauce overnight if possible. However you omit that and cook it in the sauce that very day if you prefer.
  • Keep in mind the more marinated you use the hotter this dish will be. I like my shrimp really Jerked so as you see I use allot of marinate. 
  • Then simply sauté the shrimp till cooked then remove from the heat.
  • In a pot heat some butter and sauté the garlic and sliced peppers = vegetables for a few minutes before adding in the heavy cream and coconut powder.
  • Simmer on low=medium heat till the peppers are soft 
  • Toss back in the cooked shrimp
  • Bring to a low simmer for a few mins then serve hot.

Jamaican Hot Sauce

This Jamaican Hot Sauce also known as (Scotch Bonnet Sauce) is made the traditional way with fresh scotch bonnet peppers with the addition of orange juice which really enhances this sauces flavor. 

This sauce goes well with Jerk Chicken or Jamaican Pepper Shrimp

Traditional Jamaican Hot Sauce has lime juice in it. I replaced that with Orange Juice and it is so so good. A must try! Especially over JERK CHICKEN

Air Fryer Jerk Chicken Drumsticks

This Air Fryer Jerk Chicken Drumsticks recipe is pre-marinated the night before in a Ziplock bag with some homemade Jerk Sauce and then is placed in the air fryer and is ready to serve in 20 minutes!

WHAT IS JERK CHICKEN

Jerk Chicken is a Marinade that is often marinated with Chicken overnight prior to grilling or baking or even Air Frying.

When it comes to making Jerk Chicken, I suggest making the sauce from scratch. All you need is a BLENDER some gloves (I use those simple yellow kitchen dish washing gloves) so that I can handle the scotch bonnets safely.

JERK CHICKEN MARINADE 

Consists of Scotch bonnet peppers, cilantro, olive oil, vinegar, soya sauce, onion, garlic, ginger, lime juice, thyme, cinnamon, allspice and salt. 

Some people even add orange juice, pineapple or mango to the marinade. Mine has some orange juice to balance the flavors.

This spicy sauce is ready in less than 10 mins. And preserves in the fridge up to 3 months as it contains vinegar.

How to Make Air Fryer Jerk Chicken Drumsticks

Start by Marinating the Chicken overnight in the fridge.

  • Simply placing the JERK sauce in a ZIPLOCK bag along with the Chicken

  • My Air fryer has these drumsticks cooked in less than 20 minutes.
  • Be sure to flip them half way through cooking!
