Looking for another festive dish? Then your gonna want to try my Baked Holiday Ham or even my Recette Sheppard’s Pie.

Your family can enjoy this homemade recipe any time of the year.

But really makes the perfect addition to any Holiday meal.

FUN FACT: Beef Wellington get’s it’s name from a man named Arthur Wellesley who was the first Duke of Wellington. He had a victorious Battle on June 18 1815.

The Duke was given his title after defeating Napoleon Bonaparte the year before, and not long after he became Prime Minister.

Traditional Beef Wellington was made with fillet steak inside. I have had that at a restaurant once and it was delicious.

However, I wanted to create something different. And mix the best of both worlds, beef and mushrooms. This recipe has now become popular on this blog, I hope you give it a try and let me know what you think.

HOW TO MAKE HAMBURGER BEEF WELLINGTON

This recipe is made with lean ground beef, onions, mushrooms, eggs, panko bread crumbs, flour, red wine vinegar, worcestershire sauce and seasoned with fresh thyme and rosemary.

Be sure to use fresh thyme and rosemary in this recipe, it makes all the difference.

Also do not skip on the worcestershire and red wine vinegar it helps to merge all the flavors together.

HOW TO MAKE PUFF PASTRY

I used a pre – made puff pastry to save time, (see below) The pre – made puff pastry I recommend is from Tenderflake. The box has 397 grams of puff pasty in it!

Simply remove it from the package, allow it to defrost for 1 hour and sprinkle with flour before rolling it out.

Fill the pastry with the Beef and Mushroom mixture.

Brush with the egg wash.

And make impressions to the dough as so with a fork.

Looking for a FANTASTIC homemade puff pastry recipe?

I have one here in my in my “Turkey Pot Pie” recipe instructions.

You may be more familiar the more traditional “Beef Wellington” type recipes. Which have you using Beef tenderloin or fillet instead of hamburger.

However, this recipe is just as good and if you use brown mushrooms alongside the hamburger it becomes absolutely amazing.

You will be able to serve 3 peoples for dinner easily with this. And if your wanting to serve more, I would recommending make 2 of them. Which is not hard to do at all!

Wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Cherry Galette

If you have never made a galette which is a term used in French cuisine to designate various types of flat round or freeform crusty cakes, then you are in for a treat.

Most people would agree and say this galette tastes just like cherry pie, however is a bit more light and flaky.

Served with a Chocolate Cherry Syrup that is sure appease those with a sweet tooth. Serve to your friends and family and watch them be in awe that you made it yourself from scratch.

I absolutely love cherries and come summer when they are in season and ripe, I like to eat them by them by the pounds. Packed full of antioxidants and fiber they are just too good to not enjoy fresh all summer long.

I’m always finding new ways to cook with them too and so you can find a few cherry recipes on this site for sure.

If you are checking this recipe out and there not in season where you are, then you can definitely use the pre pitted frozen ones too that most of the grocers carry.

For this recipe you are just filling and folding over to create the most delicious dessert, without all the hassle of a typical pie.

You will need about 3 cups of fresh cherries! One premade butter puff pastry, sugar and olive oil.

Place 2 1/2 cups of pitted cherries inside the Butter Puff Pastry like so

And then simply fold over all the sides

Sprinkle with white sugar or drizzle with maple syrup and bake at 375 for 35 minutes

Just make sure the cherries are defrosted fully before making this recipe if you choose the frozen variety.

While the galette is cooking in the oven, you will simply reduce a few pitted cherries on the stove top with some chocolate chips to create the perfect glaze.

Serve the glaze warm alongside this gallette and you will be in Cherry Chocolate Heaven!

Flaky, sweet and a bit tart this is sure to cure your sweet tooth!

And by all means go ahead and serve with some whip cream… so good!

Rustic Cherry (Galette) pie

I absolutely love cherries and come summer when they are in season and ripe, I like to eat them by the dozen. I’m always finding new ways to cook with them too, however if it’s not summer you can always buy them pre pitted and frozen in your local grocer and make this type of gallette at home.

If you have never made a galette which is a term used in French cuisine to designate various types of flat round or freeform crusty cakes.

Then you are in for a treat, this pie is so easy to make. You are just filling and folding over to create the most delicious dessert, without all the hassle of a typical pie. I like to make this when we go camping, as it can be cooked over the open flame or on a camp stove.

You can also make this at home if you prefer in the oven, just make sure you have pre pitted cherries and pre frozen butter puff pastry prior to your camping trip otherwise pitting cherries or  making pie crust from scratch when camping is no fun.

Then simply allow it to caramelizes over open fire, once cooked drizzle some Maple Syrup over top to sweeten and eat it right from the tin pan. Clean up is a cinch because you will simply toss the tinfoil pie shells in a sealed garbage and then can sit back and watch the fire roar.

Give it a try, I would love to know if you will try it camping or prefer this sweet treat at home.

Note: If you’re camping  and preparing this in bear country, take appropriate precautions to keep your campsite as unattractive to bears as possible. To do this simply purchase and properly use a bear-proof garbage container or ensure all your garage is placed in a sealed bin in your vehicle or at a designated dump once your done cooking, this helps keep our wildlife safe and you as well.
