This Jajangmyeon recipe is a popular Korean Black Bean sauce that is best served over wheat noodles, udon noodles or even ramen.

What is Jajangmyeon

It is a popular Korean sauce that is made from pork belly, black bean paste, onions, cabbage and zucchini. 

My recipe here omits the cabbage because that is how I prefer it. Totally up to you if you want to add that traditional ingredient or not. 

Jajangmyeon Sauce Recipe

Are traditionally served with thick wheat noodles (fresh or frozen). However, you can also serve this sauce over Japanese Udon noodles or Ramen Noodles. 

What does Jajangmyeon Black Bean Paste contain

Fermented wheat flour, soybeans and caramel sauce.

Jajangmyeon ingredients

Pork belly or ground pork
Zucchini, diced
Onions & Green onions, diced
Vegetable oil
Korean black bean paste
2 tbsp of potato starch powder or corn starch
Cucumber

Cook Time: 30 minutes
Total Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients

  • 225 grams of pound pork belly or ground pork
  • 2 cups of zucchini, diced
  • 2 onions, diced
  • 3 tbsp of vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 cup (Korean black bean paste)
  • 2 tbsp of potato starch powder or corn starch
  • 1/2 cup water
  • ½ cup cucumber, sliced cucumbers

Instructions

  1. Start by cooking the pork in a large frying pan till browned.
  2. Once browned remove and set aside
  3. Add in some cooking oil and the diced onions, green onions and zucchini
  4. Cook till translucent then add in the black bean paste and sugar sauté for a few minutes before tossing in the water
  5. Save some water to create a paste with the corn starch and slowly add in stiri till blended
  6. Simmer on medium low heat for 15 more minutes and serve
  7. Top with sliced cucumbers
