My Mini Guide to Victoria, BC
Victoria Island is located on the southern tip of Vancouver Island and is the capital of British Columbia. Blessed with incredible natural beauty and temperate climate, making for an unforgettable place to visit. The downtown area is very walkable and full of history, architecture, gardens, along with world class shopping and dining.
Why Go?
Depending on the time of year you visit will determine what kind of things you can do. Victoria Island is reachable by ferry Vancouver. It’s best to go in the summer months because there are more activities to be had on and off land. From World renown whale watching, boating and camping activities abound.
Best time to go?
Defiantly in the summer, however if you would like to avoid the crowds, spring, fall or winter can be a great time too.
Top Things to do on Victoria Island:
- Take a water taxi to get around but more for the experience. There are many different routes so check before hand or you can end up on the other side of the city. Which can be fun because you can just take the taxi back to whereever you started.
- Visit fisherman’s wharf, and grab a bite to eat at one of the many floating restaurants and or take a stroll along the floating boardwalk and enjoy the ambiance of a little floating village. As of summer 2017 you can no longer see the seals, since feeding them became banned. For decades they gathered here to sunbathe and greet people, but those days have come to an end.
- Take in the Canada Day festival down at the inner harbour. Enjoy life music, street performers and time with family all for free. Shop the local market where people sell their homegrown or made products and enjoy the array of street vendors that come out for this event.
- Take a ride around town with a horse and buggy, and enjoy the sights and sounds of this lively city. There is something just so special about this that I can’t describe but it truly is a beautiful thing to see.
- Take a whale watching tour, there are several to choose from all which leave from the wharf area. You may just get lucky to see some whales, seals and or walruses. And if not the ride alone out into the middle ocean is pretty awesome.
- Visit The largest IMAX screen in British Columbia combined with crystal clear images in IMAX Laser and wraparound digital surround sound, offers you an incredible immersive cinematic experience. Located downtown in the Royal BC Museum home.
