Canadian Smoked Salmon Rillettes Recipe

Part of the Great Canadian Recipe Series

Made with fresh salmon, smoked salmon, herbs, lemon, and a touch of cream cheese, this French-inspired spread celebrates one of Canada’s most iconic ingredients.

While traditional rillettes originated in France as a way to preserve meat, seafood versions have become increasingly popular in coastal regions around the world. Here in Canada, smoked salmon rillettes showcase the incredible quality of salmon harvested from both the Atlantic and Pacific coasts.

As part of my Great Canadian Recipe Series, this recipe highlights Canada’s rich seafood traditions while offering an easy appetizer that’s perfect for holidays, brunches, and charcuterie boards.

What Are Salmon Rillettes?

Salmon rillettes are a French-style seafood spread made from cooked salmon that is flaked and combined with smoked salmon, fresh herbs, and a creamy base.

Unlike a smooth salmon pâté, rillettes have a rustic texture with delicate flakes of fish throughout.

The result is rich, flavorful, and incredibly spreadable.
