This succulent Air Fryer Calamari is ready in less than 10 minutes. You heard that right!

Air Fryer Calamari

It is lightly breaded in flour and seasoned just right. Leaving you with soft yet crispy appetizer that everyone is sure to enjoy!

You do not need a deep fryer to have homemade crispy calamari in the comfort of your own home.

You just need an air fryer, three bowls and some simple ingredients to make light snack.

I like to serve my calamari with fresh lemon wedges and will season it with lemon pepper and a pinch of cayenne pepper.

Top with some fresh chopped parsley for garnish and your ready to enjoy!

WHAT IS AIR FRYING

Air frying is a healthy alternative to deep frying food.

And most air fryers have been marketed in a way to make you think that this cooking technique is best for those who make a lot of those at home.

CAN YOU AIR FRY CALAMARI

Most defiantly, I do it all the time.

Actually I much prefer to cook it this way because it is healthier for you and so does my family.

Because you are cutting out most of the oil usage completely.

And allowing the air fryer to do all the work!

HOW TO AIR FRY CALAMARI

HOW TO AIR FRY CALAMARI

  • You are going to want to start with two large bowls a large knife and a cutting board.
  • Then you will want to collect your ingredients, such as flour, whole squid “if frozen defrost” egg,  buttermilk and your seasonings. See recipe card below!
  • And don’t forget the fresh lemon wedges those really make this dish complete if you ask me.

AIR FRYER COOKING TIMES

  • Be sure to pre – heat your air fryer to 400 f for this recipe. “This is an important part to cooking it perfectly”.
  • Then depending on your air fryer you are going to want to cook it in batches at a high heat for no more than 10 minutes at a time
  • Place flour and seasonings into 1 large bowl.
  • Place your egg buttermilk in the other.
  • Coat the calamari rings with flour, then dredge through the egg mixture.
  • Sprinkle a bit more flour on then shake off.
  • Coat the air fryer tray or pan with cooking oil.
  • Then place the calamari rings in the air fryer, making sure to create a single later of it and either spray with oit or drip bits overtop of the rings.
  • Air fry for 5 minutes. Open basket, flip calamari, and fry for an additional 3 minutes.
  • Serve with lemon wedges

I use the T-Fal Active air fryer for this calamari. 8 minutes does the trick for us with it. Please check with your air fryers cooking instructions.

However, to convert an oven-cooked recipe to an air-fryer one, the general rule of thumb is to reduce the suggested temperature by 25°F or 3.889 C and then cut the cook time by about 20%

NOTE: DO NOT OVERCOOK THE CALAMARI OR IT WON’T BE TENDER.

IS AIR FRYER FRIES HEALTHY?

Yes, very. Since the hot air is doing all the frying, saving you from using oil. But also giving you a deep fried taste without all those trans fats.

The food ends up crispy on the outside and moist on the inside.

If you have never used an air fryer, now is the best time to start.

Because they are more affordable now than ever before.

You get a deep fried texture without all the grease.
