Spring Bug Sensory Bin for toddlers
Spring is just a few bugs away! And a Spring Bug / Insect Sensory Bin for toddlers is an excellent tool for parents and teachers of little ones to make in order to help develop fine motor skills along with confidence all the while enjoying exploring the world around them!
What makes this sensory bin even more fun is that this one is full editable. Just make sure to wash and rinse off the toys prior to inserting them into the Jello. It is basically a plastic bin that is filled with textures and toys for littles ones to play

Or you can simply use any old plastic bin and place it on a sturdy table and that will suit you just fine. In our household, we simply use a IKEA TROFAST storage unit that we have and flip it on it’s side like so for our SENSORY BIN PLAY!
HOW TO MAKE DIY SPRING SENOSRY BIN FOR TODDLERS
- Add Green Jello and 2 cups of hot water to a bin
- Mix till dissolved
- Add the insects and bugs
- Store in the fridge for 30 mins till the JELLO SETS
- Meanwhile, blend 3 cups of cherrioes
- Once set, add the purred cherrioes to the side of the bin
- Serve with a spoon to play and taste!
HOW TO TEACH YOUR TODDLER TO USE SENSORY BINS
Before you introduce them to the activity, tell them it is a toy and that all the toys and ingredients in the bins are to stay in the bins. If they come out they have to go in the garbage that is the rule. And if that happens the game play experience is over.
ARE SENSORY BINS WORTH IT
Absolutely, ask any school teacher, daycare worker or church child care minder. And they will say it is the 1 toy activity that keeps little ones engaged the longest! If that doesn’t tell you how awesome this is, then I do not know what will. Even kids with autism can really benefit from these types of activities.
WHERE TO BUY SENSORY BIN ITEMS
Anywhere kids toys are sold! I have found some pretty awesome toys for sensory at the dollar tree and dollarma stores. And of course Amazon, my go to!
HOW TO STORE YOUR SENSORY BIN IDEAS
Simply, place all your items in a sealable plastic box as seen below for the next time! We like to switch up our sensory themes every week, and so this particular box comes out once per month! You can easily get a whole years use out of one set! That is less than pennies on the dollar for a hour or so of play! As a mom I would say it is well worth it 🙂
